Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I admit it has taken my family a while to come to a consensus on SM....the first few times were a little shaky. But over time we have seen this place improve and now we enjoy it! Not my favorite Mexican in OKC but it's good and some of the dishes are really good - i.e. the ceviche. Huge portions on some of the dinner plates and can be shared but you get the set up charge.

Not bad, good serving sizes. Pretty warm inside. Was surprised how large the dining area is.

Gross. There was absolutely nothing good about this place. The cheese sauce was runny, the salsa was bland, the beans were gritty. I'm starting to think I'm never going to find Mexican food I like in OKC.

Food is really good, lots of choices on the menu, and the prices are what you'd expect.

My wife and I really like this restaurant. It's just about always busy so that should tell you something. The service is attentive but not overbearing. The menu is extensive and reasonably priced. There is a lot of available seating so even when it's busy the wait is minimal if any at all. This restaurant does serve alcohol and the margaritas are good. We like the fajitas and my wife also likes the chile relleno. This is the only San Marcos we have tried so don't know about the other locations, but I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The restaurant continues to impress me. My son and I dined here on a Monday night. Plenty is always plentiful. The staff are very friendly and make you feel welcomed. Once we sat down, we got served our drinks, tortilla chips and sauces within 3 minutes. We ordered the chicken enchiladas with beans and Mexican rice. Food was hot and delicious. Our food was on our table in 10 minutes after we ordered it. I highly recommend this location.

Food is average or slightly above average. Service none existence, and horrible. They have all these guys working there but standing around and having a conversation rather than taking care of the customers.

Nice local family owned restaurant with a few metro locations. Food is good quality & tastes fresh. I had the combination fajitas (beef, chicken & shrimp) which were tasty. Service is usually very efficient & people are nice. Recommend it, it's worth trying.

I think this place is pretty good! Foods good, people seem nice, and the atmosphere is comfortable from what I can see.. I've never actually dined, I always do to go orders but everything has always been on point.. Will say it's frustrating reading the other reviews. If you had a negative experience because the waiter wasn't kind enough or your food just wasn't good, then I get the constructive criticism, but to complain about the wrapping on your to go boxes?.. Lol First off; Thank you San Marcos for wrapping my to go boxes so when I get home my food is still hot and it hasn't been sloshed around the bottom of the bag with every turn and stop; I'll take the extra minute and thirty seconds to unravel my food over that.. People seriously baffle me... Second; to the person who said they received intestinal issues 15 min after eating at San Marcos,, I've got news for you,,, you didn't get it at San Marcos!! There is not a food born pathogen or bacterias in fecal matter that will show those results in 15 min,,, lol Any one of those bugs at minimum would be 6-12 hours; might want to look into the other places you ate.. Well,,, that's my two cents,, place is good,, people can be whiny, lazy, and retarded.. Don't be any of those,, go in and give it a try, you'll dig it..

We tried San Marcos on Rockwell again today. It use to be our go to restaurant, but for the past few months the food has gone down hill. We thought we would give them another shot. Unfortunately they still are subpar. We will continue to drive the extra miles to go the MacArthur location. Please Rockwell San Marcos bring back your tasty food!!!

Diarrhea in 15 mins food took 45 mins. You tell me. I say negative star. Waitress was new and very inexperienced. Food must be having cross contamination problems.

1st visit- Wasn't sure what to think. Ordered carne asada. Not bad! Good portion size. 2nd visit- Thinking it over still... Ya, it's pretty good. I don't think their tortillas are hand made though. The chips that they serve up are by far the best chips I have ever had in my life. I'm not kidding you. The only downside is the crunchiness factor. I love crunchy chips, french fries, fried junk in general.... But after a while I think my mouth gives up on me and then it ruins the rest of my meal. This happened at Sam Marcos of course, but I was smart enough to order a not so crunch entree: Fish and shrimp ceviche. It needs a little salt, but other then that- my plate was filled with avocado, fish, shrimp, tomatoey goodness. Not bad. I personally do not like their queso, but everyone in my party was in love with the corn.

Salsa was really good, fresh. Great service, very polite, helpful. Family friendly, loved the high chairs :). We've driven by so many times and never stopped, now we will plan many more trips there.

Good prices, quick service. Not the best tex-mex in OKC but not bad either. If your in the area it's worth stopping in but no need to make a special trip. Crispy tacos would be my recommendation.

I was seated at six different tables until I noticed one was clean. The tables and floor was very dirty...unkept is the word. I will not be back. The food seemed like you are taking short-cuts in the way that the food is being prepared. The food was not seasoned.

This place is a little sleeper. Off the beaten path and owned and operated by people who I'm sure are using family recipes. The margaritas are perfect and the price is so reasonable. Bueno!

I love the local, friendly service at San Marcos! They have great service and the food is very delicious! Almost like my "Na-Na's" cooking.

Best Mexican food around this area.

Our "go to" for quality Mexican food. the staff is always accommodating and is trying to help. They actually seem to care about the product they put out and keeping the guests happy. The food is consistently delicious and very generous portions. The menu has a great selection of your typical "tex mex" items as well as some of the more authentic Mexican options. Plus a sweet patio and cold beer? What more could you ask for? Just kidding this place sucks! Don't ever go there....please don't flood this place and make us have to wait

The food here is ok, but nothing too special. I only go here when I want Mexican that's not too far from my home (I'm a huge Mexican food lover). I give it one star because literally every time I've come in, I've felt like they don't want me there. Here are my negative experiences of the service that has happened consistently each time I've come to this restaurant: - I end up standing around for an unnecessarily long amount of time waiting just to get seated or pick up my to go order. - Managers and staff are not friendly and seem bothered to help you. - Restaurant is usually pretty dirty. - Orders are messed up sometimes. For instance, on more than one occasion I've ordered chicken fajitas only to get home to find they left out the tortillas (if you love fajitas like me you know my pain!). One time, I called up about it and they said "I didn't ask for tortillas" (tortillas are ALWAYS included with fajitas by default anywhere you go)... C'mon man. - They heavily wrap any togo items in plastic! Man, it's so annoying to have to take the time to unwrap all my food when I get home. I get it, the idea is to keep it warm, but it's just a huge hassle to have to tear through plastic wrap... adds another 5 minutes of annoying wait time before I can eat. I actually requested that they not wrap it once, and it was a huge confusion and clustermuck for the staff. To add to it, they assumed by my non-hispanic appearance that I couldn't speak Spanish (which I do, with fluency) and I could hear them cussing me and calling me names. Bottom line: *Bad service. Maybe the worst in OKC for a Mexican restaurant in my experience. *Ok food. If you are turned off by the points above, I recommend either Chilenos on the Expressway or Casa Perico on Meridian (best Mexican in the area by far).
